Right after the news that the Mets have lost shortstop Francisco Lindor for a while due to a strained oblique, there is more news about the high profile injuries. Jacob deGrom has been closed and will not take his scheduled departure on Monday, manager Luis Rojas told reporters, including Deesha Thosar from the New York Daily News, the Saturday.

Rojas said deGrom felt tension in his forearm during his side throw session on Friday. Hearing anything related to a forearm injury is pretty scary, but luckily the Mets said his MRI had come back clean and he would resume throwing once the tightness wears off.

This season, deGrom has had to deal with shoulder and side injuries, but he’s only missed a few starts. The baseball world will be hopeful that this is the case again. deGrom is currently the best pitcher in the world. He’s 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 146 strikeouts against 11 walks in 92 innings. He last took the mound on July 7.

The Mets right-hander also chose to skip this year’s All-Star Game at Coors Field. “For me, I don’t think it’s smart to go play the All-Star Game,” deGrom said. “I was beaten up a bit this first half and obviously missed a few starts that I would have liked not to miss, so I don’t think it makes sense for me to throw it.”

Besides deGrom, the Mets currently have Taijuan Walker, Marcus Stroman and Tylor Megill in their rotation. Carlos Carrasco (elbow and hamstring injuries) kicked off a two-set rehab debut, so he’ll likely be back on the mound soon. In its long road back from Tommy John surgery, the Mets are eyeing September 1 for the return of Noah Syndergaard. David Peterson (oblique) has started to “throw light” so he will have a few weeks left.

Despite the rash in injuries, the Mets entered the action on Saturday with a three-game lead over NL East. If they can get all of their pitchers back to good health in September, that’s a pretty scary rotation, but it’s also, obviously, full of injury issues.
