Jacob deGrom, winner of the NL Cy Young Award, and the Mets have agreed on a $ 137.5 million, five-year, $ 52.5 million contract postponed to the 2030s.

New York and DeGrom had agreed in January to sign a one year contract worth $ 17 million and it was on track to be eligible for a free license after the 2020 season. Agreement announced Monday guarantees an additional $ 120.5 million over four seasons and includes a 2024 team option which, if exercised, would bring the total to $ 170 million over six years, including deferred payments of $ 67.5 million.

The new DeGrom agreement provides for a signing bonus of $ 10 million, half of which is on January 2 and the other on January 4, 2021. It receives a salary of $ 7 million this season, $ 23 million. in 2020, $ 33.5 million each in 2021 and 2022 and $ 30.5 million in 2023. The Mets have an option of $ 32.5 million for 2024.

The DeGrom contract provides for the deferral of $ 12 million from its 2020 salary, $ 13.5 million in 2021, $ 15 million in 2022, $ 12 million in 2023 and, if the option is exercised, of $ 15 million in 2024. The deferred money is payable on 1 the fifteenth year after its acquisition, the first deferred payment is due in 2035 and the sum of option year is due in 2039.

The reported money recalls the pact with Bobby Bonilla, which receives $ 1.19 million each July 1, 2035.

The Red Sox act the same way as Chris Sale in a market comparable to that of DeGrom. The deal with Sale contains $ 50 million in deferred money, or $ 10 million per season. This money will be due as of June 30 of the 15th year following its acquisition.
