JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith is not happy with some people's reaction to his decision to move away from football for the 2019 season.

Smith on Saturday posted an article on Instagram in which he says he is irritated by the critics and reminds people that it is not just football in life.

"Why is it so crazy that I want to get away from the game?" Smith said. "You're just cold, everything's solid, you feel me, stop being crazy, it's getting annoying, you feel me, football is not everything, you better wake up the f —"

Smith issued a statement Thursday afternoon on his Instagram account, stating that he would not play football in 2019 as he had to take time for his family and his health. He did not rule out a return in 2020 and said that when he decided to retire, he would want to do it in Jacksonville.

"I was told by a great coach that, for the man to be at his best, he had to put his world in order," one reads in Smith 's article. "At that moment, I have to take time out of this game and put order in my world.I have to give this time to myself, to my family and to my health." I appreciate the support I will not get it, I just ask "All respect my decision not to play football this season. I know rumors of trade discussions have appeared, but I started my career in Jacksonville & the day I decided [sic] to call it, it will be here in Duval. I love you and even in my free time it is # 10toesdwn you feel me !!! Love!"

Smith had not participated in the Jaguar's voluntary conditioning program during the off-season, which began in April, and coach Doug Marrone said Friday afternoon that he still had not spoken to Smith. Marrone also said that he wanted Smith to know that he and the rest of the organization were there to support him if he wanted to reach out.

"I've somehow put football aside," said Marrone after the first day of the rookie minicamp Jaguars. "I think that [football], for me, is an afterthought now. I really believe in my heart that Telvin knows we're here to support him in any way – not just myself, the coaches, the organization, his teammates, and I'm sure he's is aware of it.

"All we can do is just make sure to pray and he knows that if he needs support, we are obviously at his side."
