What has been reported is now official, with the Jaguars announcing the hiring of Trent Baalke as chief executive.

Baalke served as the club’s interim general manager after Dave Caldwell was fired in late November. He had joined the team as director of player personnel in February 2020.

“Trent Baalke has been successful at virtually every level of football, most notably as a general manager who artfully and quickly built an organization and an NFL championship team,” said Shad Khan, owner of Jaguars. “This experience inspired us to recruit Trent from Jacksonville a year ago to serve as director of player personnel and is one of the many reasons we are appointing Trent as the new general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Trent is thoroughly familiar with the NFL and the dynamics of today’s game, has an exceptional eye for talent, and know he will have great chemistry with head coach Urban Meyer as they begin their mission to ‘bring a consistent winner to our fans in Jacksonville.

Baalke was previously general manager of the 49ers from 2011 to 2016. San Francisco won the NFC in 2012, representing the Super Bowl XLVII conference. The 49ers were 51-44-1 with Baalke as general manager

“I would like to thank Shad Khan for the opportunity to continue with the Jacksonville Jaguars as general manager of the team,” Baalke said in a statement. “I look forward to working with Coach Meyer and giving Jaguar fans around the world the winner they deserve. I am confident that our shared vision will lead our team to success in 2021 and beyond.
