Jaguars final score against Texans: Houston keeps Gardner Minshew in the game for a close win

Some dubious coaches may have cost the Texans a win in the first week, but it was a dubious practice on the other side that helped them win a second week.

Gardner Minshew and the Jaguars nearly made a strong comeback against the Texans in Houston on Sunday in Houston, scoring what should have been a decisive touchdown at the last minute of the fourth quarter. However, the Doug Marrone and Jags, who played as seven-point underdogs on the road, decided to go two to win the regulation victory.

Instead, they failed when converting to two points and lost 13-12.

Jacksonville is now down to 0-2 to start the season, but they found a glimmer of hope in Minshew's first career start Sunday. The rookie quarterback posted a solid performance, scoring 23 points for 33 points with 213 yards passing and one touchdown against no interceptions. He also finished as the Jaguars' best runner with 56 yards on the ground.

The Jags will hope for other performances like that of Minshew, who replaces Nick Foles while he is recovering from a fractured collarbone suffered during the opening game of the season.

The Texans did not really enlighten their opponents against Jacksonville and are a little lucky not to need more football, but they bounced back after a bitter defeat against the Saints in the first week to return to 1-1. Deshaun Watson made 16 assists in 29, scoring 159 yards in the air and adding a touchdown to the ground. Carlos Hyde was Houston's top offensive player, scoring 90 rushing yards in 20 races.

The Jaguars will return home to face the Titans in the third week. The Texans will head west to face the Chargers.
