CLEVELAND – Jake Paul takes aim at an old ally.
The award-winning YouTuber lambasted UFC star Jorge Masvidal in a media melee Wednesday after Paul’s practice in Public Square and said he wanted to fight him in the future. Paul faces former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in a boxing match Sunday in Cleveland, Paul’s hometown.
“I would love to fight Masvidal,” said Paul. “I think it could very, very well happen.”
Paul and Masvidal were friendly in preparation for Paul’s boxing match with Ben Askren in April. Masvidal stopped Askren in 2019 with the fastest knockout record in UFC history, five seconds. Paul and Masvidal trained together a little before Paul’s fight with Askren, and Paul even video called Masvidal at a pre-fight press conference, with the two razzing Askren.
But last week on “The MMA Hour” with Ariel Helwani, Masvidal said it was likely that Woodley would not only beat Paul, but “knock him out.”
“Not to criticize Jake, but Woodley can throw a hand at them,” Masvidal said. “Ben Askren never could. You’ve got a guy who can fight and punch when it’s time. Woodley could have made his money wrestling, which he did. He was pretty good as an athlete. , and he was pretty good as an athlete making money with his hands, knocking people out.
“I know Jake’s never been in this with a guy like that, it’s explosive, he’s a good athlete and has a ton of experience on him. If Jake wins, fuck wow. take my hat off. I was wrong. I don’t know anything about combat, do I? But chances are Woodley will knock him out.
Masvidal and Woodley are both represented by First Round Management and have a long-standing affiliation with American Top Team. So Paul said he wasn’t necessarily surprised by Masvidal’s prediction.
“He has the same manager as Woodley,” said Paul, referring to brothers Kawa, Malki and Abe. “And the guy is kinda head in the air. Let’s be honest. Masvidal is not smart. Does anyone here listen to a Masvidal interview and say, ‘Wow, this guy is intellectual and this is a smart guy and the way he talks, he’s going to talk really well. ‘ He’s a street fighter, a gangster who got knocked out in his last fight, so maybe he’s losing some brain cells. “
Kamaru Usman knocked out Masvidal at UFC 261 in April to retain the UFC welterweight title. Paul was seated in the front row at that event in Jacksonville, Fla., And got booed vigorously by UFC fans there. At one point, the whole crowd chanted “F — Jake Paul!” Paul and Usman also exchanged a few words in interviews and on social media.
But Paul said things were a bit different with Masvidal as the two were on good terms.

Masvidal took to Twitter to respond to Paul on Wednesday night.
“I guess that means you’re going to stop hitting me now on social media to go out and practice,” Masvidal wrote. “Don’t worry about me, you have a handful of issues ahead.”
