The daughter of ESPN basketball analyst Jalen Rose fanned the flames of controversy surrounding host Rachel Nichols and reporter Maria Taylor on Monday.
Mariah Rose tore Nichols apart in a video breakdown amid the drama surrounding Nichols’ comments on Taylor, which first surfaced in The New York Times over the weekend.

“Let’s talk quickly about Miss Rachel Nichols… let’s talk about your relationship with Dianne Sawyer, arguably the queen of ABC,” Rose said in the video posted to TikTok.
“You’re a woman in the sports world and you sat there and laughed at the Me Too movement, your female colleagues complaining about being sexually assaulted at work, do you think that’s funny? what really stood out to me is that you’re tired of the Black Lives Matter movement, because you weren’t tired of posting about it or doing your stupid little storybook monologues about it, can – being that instead of crying and calling Maria a diversity token, you can direct that energy to people who think there can’t be a woman on this stage.
“And if we’re real Rachel Nichols is a mediocre, mediocre, boring, not great reporter, I’m sorry your white privilege didn’t work this time, maybe next time.”

The New York Times clip showed Nichols complaining that Taylor got Nichols’ gig as host of the NBA Finals last year for “diversity” reasons.
Nichols apologized on Monday on ESPN’s “The Jump” and was defended by co-hosts Kendrick Perkins and Richard Jefferson in the process.
“So the first thing they teach you in journalism school is not to be history. And I have no intention of breaking that rule today or hijacking it. ‘attention to a fantastic final, ”said Nichols.
“But I also don’t want to let this moment go by without saying how much I respect, how much I appreciate our colleagues here at ESPN. How deeply sorry I am for disappointing those I have hurt, especially Maria Taylor, and how grateful I am to be a part of this exceptional team. “
The New York Times clip showed Nichols complaining that Taylor got the job. She was talking to LeBron James’ advisor, Adam Mendelsohn, and didn’t know she was taped.

“I wish Maria Taylor all the best in the world – she covers football, she covers basketball,” Nichols said. “If you need to give her more to do because you feel the pressure from your long-standing record for diversity – which, by the way, I know personally on the female side – go for it. Find it somewhere You’re not going to find it at my house or take my stuff.
“I just want them to go somewhere else – it’s in my contract, by the way; this work is in my written contract.
Nichols, who is White, originally joined ESPN in 2004 and was a regular on the network’s flagship show “SportsCenter” as well as NFL and NBA shows. She left ESPN for CNN in 2013 and was seen doing secondary reporting for TNT’s NBA shows from 2013-2016. She joined ESPN in 2016. Her husband’s mother-in-law is Diane Sawyer.

Taylor, who is black, had primarily been seen on ESPN’s college football coverage since joining the company in 2013. She started hosting “NBA Countdown” in 2019.
