This is a quote from Heath Ledger’s Joker from The black Knight, but it really could be something Seahawks safety Jamal Adams said after another solid performance Monday night. On 710 ESPN Seattle Monday morning, Pete Carroll noted that it was Adams’ best game with his new team.
As the Seattle offense spat during parts of the night in Philadelphia, the defense put in one of their best performances of the season and aggressive security was central to that success.
Over the past few months, Adams has been injured and ultimately missed four games. But coming out of a mini-week off, he certainly looks healthy now and that should scare the rest of the NFC off.
When the Seahawks traded two first-round picks and a third round for Adams’ serves in July, coaches and fans imagined him contributing like he did on Monday night. He was apparently everywhere, be it he slipped into the backfield, fell back into the blanket, sacked the quarterback, covering the downfield. Like the Clown Prince of Crime in Gotham City’s belly, he wreaked havoc as a villainous escapee from Arkham Asylum.
Adams, 25, landed a sack on Carson Wentz who forced the Eagles to throw a basket and hold Seattle’s lead early in the second period. It also brought his sack tally to 6.5 this season, tying his career high last season. Keep in mind that he missed four games and produced such numbers in just seven starts. The 2019 Seahawks bag leader was Rasheem Green with a meager 4.0. Adams currently has more bags in 2020 than the likes of Jadeveon Clowney, Yannick Ngakoue, DeMarcus Lawrence, Chase Young, JJ Watt and many other passers touted across the league landscape.
May I repeat, Adams is a security.
He certainly puts a smile on the faces of Seahawks coaches and fans with his reckless abandon on the pitch and vocal presence. Adams could be the most interesting Seahawk of 2020, still with a good quote or a sound byte after a big game or a match.
Sacks aside, Adams has been under 17 presses this year leading any other defensive end by far, the next closest being the Falcons’ safety. Foyesade Oluokun with eight. Between his bags, pressures, quarterback shots (12), tackles at the line of scrimmage on ball carriers (7 tackles for loss), he is a real headache in the area.
Adams was also not credited with an authorized touchdown pass, despite the poor pass defense in Seattle. His covering skills may be better than his 118.7 passer rating would suggest. He’s just an elite athlete.
It’s total chaos for the opposing offensive trying to keep up and slow down the LSU product. Other league players notice and accept the chaos it brings.
With Adams in good health and the addition of Carlos Dunlap to the fold, the Seahawks’ passing rush was on another level last month. The team have 22 sacks in their last five games, which is just six less than the total for the entire season last year. Seattle is now eighth in the NFL with 31 team sacks.
Adams is now the number one public enemy of the opposing offensive lines when he tries to prepare for Seattle. To add some effect to his presence, the charismatic star would have to crawl to the line and look into the eyes of a sweaty offensive lineman, smile and say “Why so serious?” before blowing past them for another bag.
