Star Trek: Strange New Worlds adds 5 to the cast

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” radiates five more to its cast. Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush and Melissa Navia joined stars Ethan Peck, Anson Mount and Rebecca Romjin on the Paramount + series, which began production on Friday. The series follows Spock (Peck), Captain Pike (Mount), and Number One (Romjin), all of whom were introduced in Season 2 of “Star Trek: Discovery”. “Strange New Worlds” will follow the three in the decade before Captain Kirk boards the USS Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. The “Short Treks” episode “Q&A” detailed the trio’s first day on the Enterprise. Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Meyers will be the co-showrunners. Goldsman will direct the first episode. Olusanmokun’s TV credits include Netflix’s “Black Mirror,” Marvel’s “The Defenders,” HBO’s “The Night Of,” and History’s 2016 “Roots” miniseries remake. His film credits include upcoming “ Dune ”and“ Wrath of Man ”. Chong can currently be seen in the live-action adaptation of “Tom and Jerry” and in “Bulletproof” by The CW. Gooding starred as Frankie Healy in “Jagged Little Pill,” a musical based on Alanis Morissette’s award-winning album, until it closed on Broadway in 2021, and received a 2020 Tony Award nomination for the best actress featured in a musical for her work. Bush starred as Helen in the independent feature film “Skinford” and appeared as Kendall’s recurring guest role in the Channel 10 series “Playing for Keeps”. Navia’s recent TV credits include a recurring role in AMC’s “Dietland” and guest roles in Showtime’s “Billions” and “Homeland”. In March 2020, she made her Off-Broadway debut in the highly acclaimed “Bundle of Sticks” at the INTAR Theater. “Strange New Worlds” will be the streaming service’s third live-action “Star Trek” series, along with “Star Trek: Picard”. It will also be the second “Discovery” spin-off, joining the Michelle Yeoh-led series based on Section 31 of the Starfleet intelligence agency, which is still in development. Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet will be executive producers in addition to Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will be the co-executive producers. These three join the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and the next “Star Trek: Prodigy”.
