James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” brings some changes to Harley Quinn’s character.
Most notable is that Harley no longer has a “rotten” tattoo stuck to one side of her face.
The large tattoo resided along Harley’s jawbone in 2016’s “Suicide Squad” and 2020’s “Birds of Prey”.
Gunn told a fan during a question-and-answer session on Instagram in June, via Screenrant, that the tattoo was removed after learning that Margot Robbie, who has played the role three times now, was not. fan. Gunn didn’t like it either.
“Margot didn’t like it and found out I didn’t like it either, so we decided to delete it,” Gunn said on Instagram.
According to the film’s production notes, this is the only one of Harley’s many tattoos to be removed.
Its removal is never discussed in the film. Even though “The Suicide Squad” is considered a standalone movie in the DC Extended Universe, it does allow fans to consider that Harley’s character growth allowed her to have the tattoo removed as she no longer sees herself from her. this way.
This is not the only tattoo that has been changed.
Fans will also notice later in the film that Harley’s “Property of Joker” tattoo now reads “Property of No One”.

“Property of Joker” was also written on the back of Harley’s jacket in 2016’s “Suicide Squad”.
Here Gunn found a new phrase for the back of Harley’s new jacket. It reads, “Live fast. Die Clown.”
Gunn shared on Instagram that he had offered a few options for the new text, including “The World’s Greatest Grandpa” and “AF Clown.”
Gunn asked to make another change to Harley in ‘The Suicide Squad’
According to the film’s production notes, Gunn also asked to remove Harley’s ridiculously revealing loot shorts from 2016’s “Suicide Squad” because they were impractical in a war scene.
“The first thing James said to me was, ‘I want to make the Harley from the comics. I want what the fans want, red and black, I even want red and black hair. And I don’t want it. no more shorts because she’s going into battle, ”costume designer Judianna Makovsky said in press notes.
Instead, Harley wears a fitted combat look inspired by various comedic looks to show the evolution of her character.
Tattoo adjustments and costume revisions are the little ways Harley is treated with more respect in “The Suicide Squad.”
