The Golden State Warriors have reportedly “made a call” to inquire about James Harden’s availability in the midst of his trade request.

Shams Charania of Athletic and Stadium said on the Load management podcast that the Warriors were among the teams to reach out to the Houston Rockets after Harden called for a nominee. The Brooklyn Nets are known to be Harden’s favorite destination.

Charania said the Warriors had not made a formal offer. The conversations were more exploratory, with the Warriors checking Harden’s availability, but the discussions didn’t go much further than the initial investigation.

The Rockets appear determined to move into next season with Harden and Russell Westbrook, who have also requested a trade, on their roster. Both players are under contract at least until next season and have player options for 2022-2023.

The Rockets are hoping the free agency additions they’ve made, including signing DeMarcus Cousins and Christian Wood to add size to the interior, will make them more competitive and may convince the duo to stick together. Jonathan feigen of Houston Chronicle reported that Westbrook became unhappy with his role last season and wants a trade with a team where he can ‘be himself’.

Harden is looking to join Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to form a potential Brooklyn super-team.

The Rockets also lost coach Mike D’Antoni and general manager Daryl Morey in a troubled offseason.
