The actress, singer and sister of Britney Spears said in a deleted Instagram video since her cats were run over by a Tesla they never heard coming. Teslas, like other electric cars, run quieter than vehicles with gasoline engines.
“We have now lost – I don’t want to tell you how many cats – because they can’t hear the You’re here (TSLA) cruel and unfortunate things are happening and it is truly devastating and tragic for everyone involved, ”she said in her Instagram post, according to several reports that have preserved the video.

Spears recommended that Teslas make noises that disturb the animals so that they get out of the way. She suggested the update would ensure the animals “aren’t caught off guard and things don’t end very tragically.”
As it turns out, Teslas and other electric cars are required to do so as of September 2020. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now requires electric cars to emit sounds of at least 43 decibels when in use. they travel at speeds less than 29.6 miles per hour. This is roughly the noise level of your dishwasher.
“This standard will help ensure that the blind, visually impaired and other pedestrians are able to detect and recognize hybrid and electric vehicles nearby,” NHTSA said in its order.
Europe has similar requirements: from July 2019, all new models of electric and hybrid vehicles developed and sold in the European Union must be equipped with an acoustic sound system.
Spears later reverted to her original post in another Instagram post – which she also deleted. She said she “hadn’t run over any cats” and that Tesla “is not to blame,” multiple media reported. The actress also clarified that “user error is certainly involved”.
Tesla did not immediately respond to CNN Business’s request for comment.
