Jane Fonda is fortunately single.
In a virtual chat ahead of the 2021 Golden Globes, the actress was asked if there was one thing she hadn’t yet accomplished that she wanted to accomplish.
“I’m going to tell you something that I didn’t succeed, which is a successful marriage,” replied Fonda, 83.
“But the second part of your question is, ‘Do you want to do this?’ I don’t want to, ‘she continued. “See, I live on my own. I don’t have a guy who doesn’t want a woman who’s ready to be angry and who doesn’t want a woman who is ready to be angry and stand up.
“I am not threatening anyone. I can watch whatever I want on TV. So I never want to get married again. But it’s something that I wish I had been better at.
The star of “Grace and Frankie” married three times: first with the French director Roger Vadim from 1965 to 1973, then with the politician Tom Hayden from 1973 to 1990 and finally with the founder of CNN Ted Turner from 1991 to 2001. In 2017, Fonda and music mogul Richard Perry broke up after an eight-year relationship.
Fonda was joined in the chat by Norman Lear, who answered the achievement question by saying, “I haven’t reached tomorrow yet.”
Fonda receives the Cecil b. deMille at Sunday’s Golden Globes, while Lear, 98, receives the Carol Burnett Award.
