Doylestown gymnasium owner Dawn Bancroft pleaded guilty in DC District Court and was immediately disguised by a federal judge, who called the violent rhetoric taken in a video selfie “disturbing.”

“It’s really disturbing. It’s horrible. It’s scandalous,” District Judge Emmet Sullivan said, before turning to federal prosecutors and asking, “Doesn’t that hit the mark? threat level? “

Lawyers for the Department of Justice said they did not charge Bancroft with threatening Pelosi, a California Democrat who is the Speaker of the House, because Bancroft made the comment as she left Capitol. which potentially makes it harder to prove that the threat to Pelosi was serious.

Instead, prosecutors proposed what has become plea bargaining for the rioters on Capitol Hill who are not accused of violence. She has pleaded guilty to one count of illegally demonstrating on Capitol Hill, a misdemeanor that could lead to six months in prison, although defendants rarely get the maximum.

“We’re going to talk about that more during sentencing,” Sullivan said. “I understand that you are leaving Capitol. I understand the government’s logic not to prosecute you… but I do not in any way want to downplay the very disturbing nature of a pretty outrageous statement.”

In an attempt to explain his comments about Pelosi, Bancroft told the judge, “I said it in a jovial manner. We were joking and laughing on the way back to the train. It was a stupid, stupid comment. didn’t think so. “

Later in the hearing, she said, “I understand what I have done. It was not good. … This is something I will teach my children. I did it. I am guilty. for what I did. “

The Justice Department agreed as part of the plea deal to drop three other misdemeanor charges that had been filed against Bancroft.

She was one of five rioters who pleaded guilty on Tuesday. So far, nearly 620 people have been charged in connection with the riot and 86 defendants have pleaded guilty, according to the latest CNN tally.
