Jared Dudley’s NBA career comes to an end as he joins the Dallas Mavericks coaching staff, the 14-year-old veteran said on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
In a pair of tweets, Dudley thanked the Los Angeles Lakers organization – specifically naming LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Jeanie Buss – for helping him win a title at the end of his career before announcing that he was taking a job with the Mavericks. He also thanked a number of current and former NBA players.
I have been preparing for this moment for a long time! In-depth discussions with Nash, Hill, Shaq, Bron, Booker, Beal, AD, Giannis, the list goes on. Very happy to join the MAVS and JKidd team! Perfect fit and timeliness … time to get down to business

“I’ve been planning this moment for a long time! Extensive discussions with Nash, Hill, Shaq, Bron, Booker, Beal, AD, Giannis, the list goes on … Very happy to join the MAVS and JKidd team! Perfect fit and opportunity … It’s time to get down to business, ”Dudley tweeted.
Dudley joins a Dallas team led by Jason Kidd, who has served as an assistant coach for the Lakers for the past two seasons.
Dudley was a first-round draft pick by the then Charlotte Bobcats in 2007, playing there the first season and a half of his career. He also played with Phoenix (twice), the LA Clippers, Milwaukee, Washington and Brooklyn before ending his career with the Lakers.
In 904 games, Dudley has averaged 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds as a reserve for most of his career, embracing that role of veteran presence in his final seasons.
