For nearly two months, the Red Sox have been strewn with questions about when Jarren Duran – the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox star outfielder – would be called to join the Major League squad.

The answer seems to be now: According to several reporters, Duran is heading to New York to meet the Red Sox for their series against the Yankees.

The Red Sox have not confirmed this decision. Duran could replace Marwin Gonzalez, who twisted his hamstrings before the all-star break.

In Worcester, Duran compiled a .270 / .365 / .561 slash line with 15 home runs, 32 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 189 batting appearances. He has steadily risen in the lead rankings and is now 25th on Baseball America’s list (86th on MLB.com).

“We know he’s a good player and we know that at some point in his future he’s going to contribute at this level,” Cora told media in early June. “There are still a lot of things he still needs to improve on. But we love where he is right now. We love that he got to play at a different level (for Team USA). It’s part of the development process. The winning tips are important to the players. That’s why I’m so big on the winter ball. He did it at the winter ball. He’s done it now with Team USA. …

“He’s a guy we really love and we know he’s going to make an impact in the future.”

Duran played center in Worcester but his position is a bit fuzzy now. One option would be to drag Kiké Hernández to second base, opening up center field for Duran.

Duran was a seventh-round pick in 2018.
