NEW YORK – The NBA announced today that Jason Phillips, a leading referee with 19 years of experience as a referee in the league, has been appointed director of operations for the Replay Center.

In his new role, Phillips will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the NBA Replay Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. His refereeing duties will include the creation of training videos and the interpretation of the rules of the game for officials, teams, broadcasters and the media. .

Phillips will be assisted in the Replay Center by senior manager Pete Williams, who has been a staff member of the Replay Center since September 2014. In addition to overseeing the game, Williams creates training programs, establishes a protocol and assigns nightly responsibilities to all. Replay Center staff. .

Phillips will succeed Joe Borgia, senior vice president of replay and umpire operations, who has served the NBA for 30 years as the game's official and chief executive of the refereeing and basketball operations. Borgia has been instrumental in the creation, design and implementation of the NBA's state-of-the-art reading center.

Borgia will refocus its efforts and role in the NBA on the newly created and recently approved Coaching Challenge. As he has done with the Replay Center, Borgia will develop the rules and will take care of the execution of this important initiative.

"Joe's background, knowledge and experience make it a natural fit to lead the introduction and application of the Coach Challenge," Spruell said. "After years spent supervising the Replay Center every night, Joe is grateful that he continues to serve the NBA in such a crucial role."

Phillips, 49, has officiated more than 1,100 regular season games since joining the NBA for the 2000-01 season. He has also played 94 times in the NBA playoffs, including nine in the final. He completed his field career by refereeing games 1 and 5 of the NBA 2019 finals.

A native of Cisco, Texas, Phillips earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Tarleton State University.
