Time will tell us.

Jason Sudeikis has broken his silence over his separation from ex-fiancee Olivia Wilde, saying he hopes the end of their relationship will make more sense in the future.

“I’ll understand better why in a year,” he said in the August issue of GQ, “and even better in two, and even more in five, and it’ll be, you know, a book of my life to become a chapter one paragraph one line one word one doodle.

The former “Saturday Night Live” star confirmed that the couple had “separated in November 2020” after more than seven years together and two children: Otis, 7, and Daisy, 4.

Just two months after Sudeikis, 45, and Wilde, 37, canceled things, she was spotted with Harry Styles – who is 10 years her junior. The new romance sparked a media frenzy.

Sudeikis told GQ that the whole experience is something you “learn or apologize for”.

“You take some responsibility for it, you hold yourself accountable for what you do, but you also strive to get something out of it beyond the obvious,” he said.

A month after Wilde and Styles, 27, started making headlines, Sudeikis made headlines himself by appearing at the virtual Golden Globes ceremony wearing a tie-dye hoodie.

He won the award for best actor in a comedy for “Ted Lasso,” but sparked questions about whether he was high due to his stammering and rambling acceptance speech.

At the time, there were rumors that he was still heartbroken over the separation and wasn’t ready to date someone new himself.

“I was neither high nor sorry,” Sudeikis told GQ. “So yeah, it came out like, ‘This is how I feel. I believe in moving forward.

He added, “I wore this hoodie because I didn’t want to f-king wear the f-king top half of a Tom Ford suit. I love Tom Ford costumes, but it was weird like that.

The comedian has enjoyed great success with “Ted Lasso”, which is now in its second season. The AppleTV + series is about an American football coach who moves to England to coach a football team while falling out with his wife.

Sudeikis shared that he and Wilde developed the concept together at a dinner party in 2015, which – in hindsight – he wonders if this was some form of protest.

“I wonder if this is true,” the actor told the magazine. “I mean, isn’t that just a bit of what Oprah [Winfrey] told us for years and years? You know, demonstration? Power of thought? It’s ‘The Secret’ backwards, you know?

Despite the ups and downs of the past year, Sudeikis said he was proud of how he overcame the pitfalls.

“I think if you have the ability to get to the bottom, however you define it, you can either become 412 bones or land like an Avenger,” he said. “Personally, I chose to land as an Avenger.”

When asked how he did it, he replied, “I don’t know. This is just how I landed.

In June, Sudeikis was pictured for the first time with his girlfriend Keeley Hazel.
