With regard to the wounded departures of the Mets, one seems ready to return and the other is very close.
Steven Matz took the floor on Thursday after launching Wednesday a session at the center of 45 heights and said he feels good. During the session, Matz said that he was ready to come back and that he was "really happy".
"I started a pencil yesterday and I feel good today," said Matz, according to Steve Gelbs of SNY.
The starting pitcher from Saturday in Miami was designated as pending, but was waiting for Matz before making a decision. It now seems that Matz is likely to come back and start Saturday.
Jason VargasThe other Mets coach, injured, is making progress and this weekend will begin a re-education program for the Binghamton Double-A, said director Mickey Callaway.
If all goes well, Vargas will probably be activated from the DL shortly after the start of his rehabilitation.
As for who fills for Vargas during this round by rotation, it seems likely Drew Gagnon, which has exceptionally well thrown out of the Mets pad and would take the place of Wilmer Police – Which filled in the last two starts.
Gagnon, 28, averaged 0.51 and .09 WHIP earned points as well as 14 strikeouts in 17.1 innings (three starts) for Triple-A Syracuse.
