Jay-Z, Carole King and Tina Turner lead Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees as 2021 marks the most racially diverse class of potential winners in 15 years

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Wednesday announced its most inclusive poll of all time, which features legends like Carole King and Tina Turner.

In addition to honoring seven nominated women, this year marks the the most racially diverse category of potential applicants since 2006, with “nine artists in total being people of color,” according to Yahoo.

“ This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates, ” John Sykes, president of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement.

He continued, “These nominees left an indelible impact on the soundscape of the world and influenced countless artists who followed them.”

Other contestants include Mary J. Blige, Dionne Warwick, Kate Bush, Chaka Khan and The Go-Go’s.

King and Turner have previously been inducted along with the 79-year-old singer It’s Too Late, who won entry into the non-performer category in 1989 and the rock ‘n’ roll queen, 81, as part by the duo Ike & Tina Turner.

Surprisingly, this is The Go-Go’s first nomination, despite over 40 years since the release of their debut album Beauty and the Beat, which remains the only fully self-written album by a fully self-written band. female, who played their own instruments, to go number one on the Billboard Hot 200.

In their first year of eligibility, rapper Jay-Z and the Foo Fighters also won nominations.

Fans can participate in the induction selection process until April 30 by voting on the Hall of Fame site or at the Cleveland Museum.

“ The top five performers selected by the public will include a fan ballot that will be counted along with the other ballots to choose the 2021 inductees, ” according to CNN.
