The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has been canceled for fall 2021, festival organizers announced on Sunday.
The festival, which was slated for October, has been canceled due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in New Orleans, organizers said. New Orleans and state officials recently reinstated indoor mask warrants as cases and hospitalizations rise. Louisiana set a new hospitalization record for COVID four days in a row this week.

“Due to the current exponential growth of new cases of COVID in New Orleans and the region and the ongoing public health emergency, we unfortunately have to announce that the 2021 edition of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell, which is scheduled to take place from October 8 to 17, 2021, will not go as planned, ”festival organizers said in a statement.

The festival will be rescheduled for its normal two weeks in the spring and is now scheduled to run from April 29 to May 8.
“We are now looking forward to next spring, when we will present the Festival during its traditional duration,” the statement said. “The dates for next year are April 29 to May 8, 2022.”
The goal, the companies say, is to prevent another shutdown.
People who have already purchased tickets will receive an email this week on how to get a refund or renew tickets for future dates. All tickets for Wednesday October 13 will be refunded automatically.
“In the meantime, we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols proposed by public health officials, so that we can all soon experience the joy that is Jazz Fest,” the statement said.
