2021 marks JBL’s 75th anniversary, but instead (or maybe as well) of chilling out with a vintage wine and writing a memoir, the American audio brand is celebrating the anniversary by releasing a limited edition version of its legendaries. L100 Classic speakers.
The new L100 Classic 75 is based on the L100 Classic released in 2018 (which in turn were updates to the original 1970 L100 model). In our five star review last spring, we called retro-designed floor lamps a “viable alternative to the best of their modern rivals.”
Each of the 75 pairs of the new Limited Edition L100 Classic leans heavily on the iconic design of the 1970s lineage, but acoustic and aesthetic tweaks have been made to highlight the occasion and evolve the speaker performance. .
While the speaker cones themselves remain the same, there is now an improved woofer suspension design and a revised array to include dual-wire capabilities, with two sets of gold-plated binding posts.
The teak wood veneer adorning all sides of the cabinet is paired with a black Quadrex foam grille which is now complete with a gold and black JBL logo. Special edition badges can also be found on the front and back, including a commemorative plaque that includes the signature of Senior System Engineer, Chris Hagen, and the individual production pair number. Even the wooden crate in which the L100 Classic 75 and the corresponding JS-120 floor stands are supplied is decorated with limited edition artwork.
