JCPenney explains its decision to close the Springfield Home Store

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – JCPenney explains its decision to close its Home Store at the Springfield Primrose Marketplace. The company announced Thursday that it would close a total of 18 stores after a weak Christmas holiday season.

Dana Harrington of JCPenney, Corporate Communications and Public Relations, presented the following information about the Springfield store and its employees:

As part of a standard annual review, JCPenney can confirm that it will close its home store located in Springfield, MO. It is planned to close this autumn.

This decision is the result of a continuous review of our store portfolio, which includes an assessment of locations that may not achieve our required financial goals or constitute an opportunity to take advantage of a beneficial real estate asset. It is never easy to take action that has a direct impact on our valued employees and customers, but we believe this is a necessary decision.

Eligible employees who are not transferred to another JCPenney site will receive severance pay. All affected employees will be able to participate in a three-hour on-site professional training course at no cost to the partner, offering advice on resume writing, answering interview questions and more. . .
