Jeannie Mai says she is underweight and malnourished after emergency surgery

Jeannie Mai said she was underweight and malnourished after being placed on a liquid diet after emergency surgery.

“I’m a little depressed because I lost about 10 pounds just by eating liquids, so I’m really fragile right now,” the “The Real” co-host told People. “Really, really fragile.”

Earlier this month, the 41-year-old had to give up ‘Dancing with the Stars’ after being hospitalized with inflammatory epiglottitis.

She also shared that she felt “really tired” because she was “so underweight and malnourished”.

Mai said she was not allowed to eat solid or hot food for two weeks.

“You could actually do a really big deal of damage,” she said of the strict diet, adding, “So I ate a lot of cold soups and a lot of juice.”

But the TV personality remains optimistic about her getting back into shape and getting back into shape when she’s ready.

“[I] I can’t wait to go back to the gym to get my body back and my health to conquer my dreams again, ”she told People.

So far, she said she was “96% better, where I can speak.” I can’t scream, but I can talk.

She’s also starting to reintroduce solid foods into her diet, “incorporating starches, meat, and things I can chew on.” I cannot chew solid and solid foods. I can’t have like bread, or nothing like crackers, but maybe I can eat like porridge or maybe [a] matzo ball. “

Although she continues to struggle, Mai is simply grateful that her surgery was a success.

“I’m so grateful to be alive, of course, and grateful to have learned that you really can’t take your health for granted,” she said.

In early November, Mai gave an update of her hospital bed on “DWTS” following her procedure.

“I am absolutely devastated that my journey on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ ends like this,” Mai said at the time. “I found out that I had an abscess in my throat, where my tonsils and throat got so infected that they started to enter the rest of the areas behind my neck and behind my ears, that I had to undergo emergency surgery, that’s why I’m here now.

Her doctor told her that if she had waited longer, her throat might have closed.

Two weeks after the health crisis, her fiancé Jeezy said Mai was already on the road to recovery.

Described as a “life-threatening condition,” epiglottitis occurs “when the epiglottis – a small cartilaginous ‘cover’ that covers your windpipe – swells, blocking the flow of air into your lungs,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
