An Instagram post from the Colorado Jeep Girls urged the community to join the procession to celebrate Castillo's love for the jeeps.

"Join us, no matter which Jeep you drive in. News, old and everything else! Let them show the Kendrick family the love of our Jeep community," he said.

More than 600 jeeps have come to pay tribute to the teenager.

Castillo was shot dead on May 7 while he was pouncing on the gunman who had brandished a firearm in class and ordered everyone not to move before starting to shoot. Castillo was joined by three other students who jumped on the shooter and allowed the rest of the class to flee the room. He was killed just two days before his last day of high school.

"Kendrick Castillo died of a legend. He died of a soldier," said Brendan Bialy, one of the students who also jumped on the shooter with the goal of stopping him. "I know he'll be with me for the rest of my life."
