Former NASA astronaut and ISS commander Leroy Chiao reacts to Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space flight and the way “tourists” train for leisure space travel.
Blue Origin CEO Jeff Bezos and the three passengers who will accompany him to space next week arrived in Texas on Friday to prepare for the launch.
The crew is due to take off on Tuesday from a facility near Van Horn. They will be aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, for the aerospace company’s very first crewed launch.

“The four of us just arrived in West Texas today,” the Amazon founder wrote in an Instagram post Friday. “I can’t wait until Tuesday! #GradatimFerociter”
Accompanying Bezos, Oliver Daemen, 18, replaces the anonymous winner of a live auction which offers $ 28 million; “Mercure 13” at 82 years old aerospace pioneer Wally Funk; and Bezos’ brother, Mark Bezos.
Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration approved a Blue Origin license to transport humans into space in New Shepard.

Bezos aims to become the second person to fly their own rocket into space, after Virgin Galactic founder and billionaire Richard Branson successfully reached the edge of space July 11, flying 53 miles above Earth before landing safely.
