Lady Gaga was always going to be a tough act for Jennifer Lopez to follow. And if the opening day was a battle of belters, there was no contest.
Still, J.Lo – who looked resplendent in all white Chanel with her million dollar Alex Rodriguez diamond ring on full display – held firm in a mix of “This Land Is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful” which showed that she could really sing something other than “Waiting for Tonight”.
There was a simple sincerity in the performance of the 51-year-old, no-frills showmanship that shakes the booty we’re used to seeing from the Bronx Block’s own Jenny. And that was a nice touch when she added a little Spanish – and a hint of “Let’s Get Loud” – to it all. (In Spanish she said: “One nation, with freedom and justice for all.”)
Like Gaga, Lopez has supported President Joe Biden throughout his campaign. And that performance wraps up a whirlwind year in which La Lopez seemed to be everywhere, starting with her Super Bowl halftime show last February and ending in 2020 with her headlining performance on “New Year’s.” Rockin ‘Eve ”.
