Jeremy Lin won’t name the person who called him ‘coronavirus’ in the field

Lin, who plays for the Santa Cruz Warriors, the G League or the Minor League affiliated with the Golden State Warriors, tweeted Saturday that he will not “name or shame anyone” after sharing the racism he experienced.

“What’s the point in this situation for someone to be demolished?” Lin said. “It doesn’t make my community any safer or solve any of our long term racism issues.”

“Instead, if you really want to help, look for the Asian kid who has no one to speak up for him when he’s being bullied,” he said. “Look for Asian American groups that live in poverty but are neglected.”

The G League is investigating the incident, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the guard expressed his anguish over racism and violence targeting Asian Americans. Communities and activists across the United States have been on high alert in recent weeks following a series of recent attacks on the minority group.
While it’s unclear what is fueling the recent incidents, advocates and authorities say they have seen a pattern of targeted hatred since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

While at Harvard University, Lin said his assistant trainer Kenny Blakeney helped him talk about times he experienced racism.

“He shared with me his own experiences as a black man – stories of racism that I couldn’t understand,” Lin said.

In 2019, Lin became the first Asian American to win an NBA title while playing for the Toronto Raptors. Lin became a household name in 2012, when he became the star of the New York Knicks. Its success has been dubbed “Linsanity”.
