Jeremy Lin chose an opportunity with the G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors over continuing to play professionally in China, in the hopes of catching up with the organization and eventually regaining a place in the NBA.
Although Lin was criticized and limited to five of the Warriors’ 12 games in the G League bubble in Orlando, Fla., Rookie goalie Nico Mannion spoke after Sunday’s win over the Austin Spurs how he appreciated the veteran’s leadership.
Mannion and Lin’s combined 52-point effort fueled the eighth straight win for Santa Cruz on Sunday, as the Sea Dubs are only half a game behind the Erie Bayhawks for the bubble’s best record.

Lin has averaged 19.6 points and 7.2 assists per game in five appearances for the G League Warriors. At 32, the Palo Alto native is the oldest statesman in a squad almost entirely made up of players who have yet to reach their 25th birthday.
Especially for a player like Mannion, a Warriors second-round pick in November that the organization wanted to get more playing time by playing in the G League, being able to soak up Lin’s knowledge has been a tremendous resource.
Mannion and G League second-highest scorer Jordan Poole will likely return to the NBA Warriors bench once the G League game is over, and getting down to business alongside Lin should serve them well.
