Jerry "earned the right" to joke with Zeke

"I've earned the right to joke with Zeke. Let me be really clear about this, "Jones said. "I've earned the right to joke with Zeke."

Clearly, Jones is referring to his support for Elliott in numerous off-field incidents and his suspension from the NFL in 2017.

While Jones and the Cowboys continue their contract negotiations with three key starters – Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Zeke, the biggest problem seems to be with Elliott, the only player on the list who is not in the camp because of a persistent problem.

Neither Jerry Jones nor Stephen Jones would comment in detail on Elliott's negotiations. However, Stephen Jones said that he remained totally confident that all three would come true.

"I'm optimistic," said Stephen Jones. "I already said, just put in the good fork. When you approach it, they can be done quickly. We are on the road with these three guys. We could get up tomorrow and have another (press conference). Will it happen? Probably not. But once you decide to go, it goes away.

Elliott missed the entire training camp at Oxnard and the first training session here in Frisco this week.
