Angelina exposes texts her cast members didn’t know she saw, Deena and JWoww call BS on her olive branch and the boys are caught in the middle.
Snooki may not be a part of “Jersey Shore Family Vacation” anymore, but, if the season premiere is any indication, there’s still a lot of drama to be done without it.
The two-hour premiere detailed the immediate fallout from Angelina Pivarnick’s wedding, where Jenni “JWoww” Farley, Deena Nicole Cortese and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi sent the bride into a tailspin with their toast during the reception. In case you forgot, the trio were booed after they trashed Staten Island, referred to Angelina’s previous failed engagements and called her “the fly of our shit.”
The premiere resumed just two days after the ceremony and Angelina was still furious – saying the women “had ruined the night” for her. She proceeded to call the jokes in the speech “a little screwed up” because her husband, Chris, called his teammates’ behavior “unacceptable”.
As Angelina said the women apologized via text message after the ceremony, she continued to scroll through the group chat and realized that the entire cast had texted about her without realizing that she was also on the wire.
“It was a group chat, Deena started it. She said, ‘I’m going never film with her again, “she asserted.” And then Mike writes, ‘Who are you talking about? Deena writes: “ANGELINA, Mike”. And then Snooki wrote, “Same”. And JWoww wrote, “I’m glad we’re all on the same page. It was just for me. ‘”
The tense situation between all the women only escalated in the days that followed, as audio of the speech leaked online and made headlines. For Jenni and Deena, it meant a wave of backlash against them on social media – as JWoww said she had “never been through what we’re going through right now”.
While Jenni said her comments were inundated with trolls saying she “should die and get kicked and spit on”, Deena said fans told her her “son deserves to be the victim of intimidation “and that they would” hit “her in the face if they ever saw her in person. For them, Angelina was only fueling the fire by liking some of the nasty posts and saying on social media that she wanted to redo her marriage. They felt Pivarnick was using the game as an opportunity to “destroy” them. At this point, Deena didn’t even think she could be in the same room again.
As for everyone in the cast, the boys didn’t believe the girls were trying to be mean with their speech, but said Angelina always had a right to be upset. They also didn’t think the three should have been bridesmaids or toasted – while The Situation’s wife Lauren said Angelina should have expected it to be inappropriate. Ronnie went so far as to call Angelina and basically tell her that, reminding her that she and Jenni were in a brutal fight just weeks before the wedding and pointing out that she even laughed during the toast at the start.
“You’re not the one giving me drama advice, that’s for sure,” Angelina said of Ron in a confessional.
The show then took a break from filming and resumed two months later. At this point, Snooki had announced that she had officially left the show, having suffered much of the same backlash as her co-stars. Jenni had also reunited with Zack Clayton Carpinello around this time, saying he was there for her when she needed support. She and Deena, however, still hadn’t spoken with Angelina.
Mike called a family reunion with Vinny, Jenni and Deena at his home, officially dubbing himself “The Mediation” as he tried to negotiate a peace deal between all the women. Deena insisted there would be “no reconciliation” with Angelina, while Jenni said the only way forward was “without her”.
“Why do we have someone in our little circle who doesn’t give a damn about us?” Deena wondered. “If she’s not here, I’ll be there. I’ve never been so sure of a decision in my life.”
The Sitch, uh, mediation then went to Angelina’s to try and listen to her. She was still warm, however, and said she was “sick and tired of hitting the high road with” the other women. “It’s exhausting, they don’t like me, they made it very clear that they don’t want to be with me,” she added.
Mike told her to extend an olive branch, which she did via a lengthy Instagram post. The post – in which she said she had “forgiven” them the speech and didn’t want to let a few jokes “ruin what we have been rebuilding in the past two years” – was do not well received. In fact, it only infuriated them even more.
Jenni ended up texting Angelina a book, asking her why she felt the need to post on social media and hadn’t contacted them directly. She also accused Angelina of only contacting Snooki because she saw the backlash she was getting for “the way. [she] “That, of course, woke Angelina … and she finally deleted the message.
The second hour of the two-hour premiere continued further into the pandemic, with the cast all in quarantine in their respective homes. Deena had stocked up on food and diapers, Ronnie had moved to a new house in Los Angeles, Vin was hiding from Uncle Vito, and Pauly D not only had a new beard, but a girlfriend, Nikki Hall from “Double Shot at Love”.
In an attempt to break off some of the tension, Mike decided to play a joke on Deena and Jenni after inviting them and Vinny over for a social hookup. At one point during the barbecue, Lauren snuck up, put on a black wig, and pretended to be Angelina arriving at their house. Although the two women were momentarily alarmed, they quickly recognized Lauren’s buttocks.
Later, Vin, Mike and Lauren went to Angelina and her husband Chris’s house, where Vinny apologized for taking down the marriage situation on social media when the episode finally aired. Angelina and Chris appreciated the apology. Lauren, however, told Angelina that she was making everything more “dramatic” than needed.
“It’s not that dramatic,” she said, urging Angelina to take the high road. “I would never destroy my marriage for such a mean thing.” Pivarnick, of course, disagreed.
While there was no resolution between Jenni, Deena, and Angelina, the rest of the season will see the boys doing their best to mash the beef. A new supertease showed them all coming together to film at an empty Las Vegas complex during the lockdown – and what appeared to be an overhaul of Angelina’s wedding and disastrous speech.
“Jersey Shore Family Vacation” airs Thursdays on MTV.
