Jesse McCree, director of Diablo 4 missing from Activision Blizzard

Diablo 4 game director Luis Barriga, lead designer Jesse McCree and World of warcraft designer Jonathan LeCraft was fired from Blizzard on Wednesday, two sources with knowledge of the move said Kotaku.

The news got through to the development teams today but has yet to be officially announced. A source confirmed Kotaku that the names of the three developers are no longer visible in the internal Blizzard or Slack directory. Activision Blizzard did not immediately return a request for comment.

A source who learned the news said Activision Blizzard had not given a reason for the departures, but they come as the company considers a lawsuit in California. alleging widespread sexual harassment and discrimination to Monitoring and Call of Duty editor.

Jesse McCree, the namesake of Monitoringbeloved cowboy fighter and more recently a designer on Diablo 4, was one of many current and former Blizzard developers who appeared in an image of a “Cosby Sequel” from BlizzCon 2013 obtained by Kotaku. The suite contained alcohol and a giant portrait of Bill Cosby and is believed to have belonged to World of warcraft developer Alex Afrasiabi.

Afrasiabi is one of the few named in the California lawsuit, who accuses him of sexually harassing and curling up female colleagues. Bloomberg reported that the sequel nickname started off as a joke on the ugly carpet and preceded the widely publicized sexual assault allegations on Bill Cosby, although some Blizzard sources disputed this origin story. Two former Blizzard employees said Kotaku that the sequel’s reputation had always been threatening because of Afrasiabi’s behavior. References related to Afrasiabi have since been removed from World of warcraft, although there is no word yet on whether or not Monitoring and his gunslinger will see any change in light of the latest news.

Jonathan LeCraft and Cory Stockton, currently chief game designer at Blizzard, were also pictured in the sequel. Two sources confirmed Kotaku that Stockton was put on leave last week but appears to be staying with the company.

Luis Barriga has been with Blizzard since 2006, and as Game Director he has been one of the faces of Diablo 4 since it was originally revealed. The game is still in development and has no release date yet. Last year, veteran game developer Rod Fergusson announced that he was leaving Microsoft and Gears 5 studio La Coalition join Blizzard and supervise the whole Diablo franchise.
