Jessica Simpson has tested positive for COVID-19 at some point in the past year.

the Open book the author, 40, made the revelation on the cover of his new essay Amazon Original Stories Initiate. Simpson said the essay was about “self-acceptance, parenting and overcoming fear,” with that last part coming into play after her diagnosis.

“We have all faced challenges and fears in our lives that at times seemed too difficult to overcome,” Simpson wrote on Instagram Monday. “This past year has been particularly intense for me and for many of you. I started writing this essay the same day I tested positive for COVID-19. I decided that ‘instead of being driven by fear, I would manifest hope in conversation with you. I felt strong, resilient and inspired by God through my pen teaching myself while sharing with you the ways to move from other side of fear. “

Simpson announced her partnership with Amazon Studios in December 2020, but it is not known when she tested positive for the coronavirus. In addition to writing two new original essays, the bestselling author will star in a new unscripted documentary series and produce a new scripted coming-of-age series for society.

Simpson promoted the new pocket version of his memoir Open book but has not yet developed its experience with COVID-19. In a recent interview with People, she said she has learned “that I am capable of much more than I thought” over the past year.

“I definitely had to multitask on a whole new level this year, between my kids at school on Zoom and being a working mom, keeping the Jessica Simpson collection at bay and pushing through inspired ideas that became endless and rewarded so much while keeping my family smiling, ”she told the magazine.

Simpson shares three children with her husband, Eric Johnson: Maxwell Drew, 8, Ace Knute, 7, and Birdie Mae, 2.

“I think the bottom line is that it’s not easy and every day presents challenges and blessings,” she added. “Life is a blessing to live, and the more we think too much, the more we fall behind in our personal journey.”

Initiate will be available on April 29.
