A couple have been banned from flying JetBlue after refusing to properly wear their face masks and mistreating crew members on a flight to San Diego.
The airline said passengers were repeatedly asked to wear their face coverings properly before take-off, but they ignored the federal warrant, ABC 10News reported.
On Wednesday, a passenger on Flight 529 from Fort Lauderdale caught the Covidiots in action on his cell phone and shared the footage online.
“I was boarding right behind the lady, the blonde lady, and she was like dancing, taking boomerangs with her two children,” Alice told the media, using only her first name.
“On the way to the plane itself, the flight attendant actually asked him to tighten his son’s mask. It was like very cowardly and very big to him. So they didn’t either, ”she said.
“Her husband walked down the aisle to outside the plane. Then this whole mess started to happen. When he came back he just started yelling at the flight attendant, ”Alice added.
The unruly man – seen in the clip being verbally and physically aggressive towards the crew – tells passengers he had to wait four hours for the flight, according to the footage.
He also claims he only received one warning before being thrown from the plane.
“I’m sure you’ve heard the whole plane as panting,” Alice told ABC 10News.
The woman is also seen swearing at the employees and trying to explain that her son briefly removed his mask, adding that they had tried to comply with the rules but the flight attendants were not happy .
The couple and their two children were escorted off the plane.
“It amused me. I’ve never seen anything like this before, but I’m very sad that they can just complain about the federal mandate, ”said Alice.
The airline told the station that “customers will no longer be allowed to fly with JetBlue in the future.”
In a statement, he said: “We apologize to our other customers on this flight for their experience during this incident. For reference, crew members are trained to talk to customers who do not follow policies.
“If a customer refuses to wear a face mask after being invited, the crew members will endeavor to defuse the situation to the best of their ability to comply prior to withdrawal,” JetBlue said.
“The safety of every customer and crew member is our top priority, and we must work together to follow the federal mandate of the mask while traveling,” the airline added.
The incident occurred a day before President Biden announced that fines will be doubled for people who do not comply with federal transportation rules.
The president ordered the Transportation Security Administration to hit violators with tougher penalties to “ensure masking requirements remain in place on other modes of transportation as we continue to fight COVID-19.”
“The TSA will double the fines for travelers who refuse to mask themselves. If you break the rules, be prepared to pay. And by the way, show respect, ”Biden said from the White House.
The agency said first-time offenders would see fines drop from $ 250 to $ 500 to $ 1,000, while repeat offenders could face fines of up to $ 3,000.
There have been around 3,000 disputes over wearing masks on U.S. planes so far this year, officials said.
