According to Ian Rapoport, the Jets have agreed to terms with former Bengals edge defenseman Carl Lawson.
Lawson was a fourth-round pick by the Bengals over Auburn in 2017. His 20 sacks in four seasons in the NFL don’t seem overwhelming, but there’s more to it than what you see with Lawson. He has displayed prolific pressure figures throughout his career. While he might not tackle the quarterback frequently, his rushed pass still has an impact on games.
Edge Rusher has been a chronic need for the Jets for a very long time. Lawson alone won’t solve all the problems, but I think he will help a lot. It seems like a great first step in dealing with the pass rush.
Personally, I have been a longtime Lawson fan. I wanted the Jets to pick him in 2017, and I’ve been backing him from afar ever since. Now we can all watch it every Sunday.
