Jets claim quarterback Luke Falk over Dolphins overrides

The Jets have a new quarterback. They claimed Luke Falk Thursday after leaving the Dolphins, adding a player that coach Adam Gase knows since their brief stay in Miami.

Falk, 24, was with the Dolphins during the first month of last season before a wrist problem drove him into the injured reserve. Gase was the head coach of the Dolphins. He therefore has a working knowledge of Falk, a sixth-round pick of the Titans in 2018.

Falk became expendable in Miami and was raised Wednesday after the Dolphins traded against Cardinals Josh Rosen. Falk was cut by the Titans after the pre-season. He has launched 119 touchdown passes in four seasons in Washington State and is the all-time leader for the Pac-12 in pass attempts, assists, yards and touchdowns.

Falk's addition to the lineup will have a direct impact on Davis Webb, the Giants' third round pick in 2017, who lost the battle of 2018 training camp with Alex Tanney and Kyle Lauletta. Sam Darnold is the starting quarterback of the Jets and Trevor Siemian has been signed to serve as a substitute. Webb and Falk will compete for third quarterback if the Jets keep three quarterbacks. Another quarter, Brandon Silvers, is also on the list.
