The Jets were riding with three quarterbacks that had no NFL snap between them – first-round picks Zach Wilson, Mike White and James Morgan. This is Johnson’s second stint with the Jets. He was with the team for 10 days during training camp 2015.

Johnson, 35, last played a regular season game in 2018 with Washington. Johnson’s coaching staff know Johnson well after spending time in 2020 on the 49ers training squad. Johnson changed teams 17 times in the NFL and also played in the XFL, AAF and UFL.

The Jets gave up linebacker Brendon White to free up a spot in the roster.
