The first lady appeared on “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, telling Clarkson to look to the future. The singer filed for divorce from Blackstock in June after seven years of marriage.

“I want to tell you, Kelly, this is what I would tell you if I were your mother,” Biden said. “You know, my mom always told me, ‘Things will be better tomorrow. And if you can take it one day at a time, things will get better. “”

Prior to marrying President Joe Biden in 1977, Biden was married to Bill Stevenson for five years. They divorced in 1975. She told Clarkson that she was grateful that her own divorce had taken place, because she had met Biden.

“I look back now and think, you know, if I hadn’t been divorced, I would never have met Joe. I wouldn’t have the beautiful family I have now, ”she says.

“So I really think things are going for the best. I think Kelly over time I don’t know how long it’s been for you [since the separation], but I think over time you get better. You will be surprised and I can’t wait for this day to come for you. You’re going to call me and you’re going to say, ‘Hey, Jill, you were right!’ “
