Jim Boeheim makes statement on Syracuse players looking for transfers: ‘We wish them the best’

Syracuse men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim made a statement Tuesday to three of his players entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Redshirt rookie John Bol Ajak and Redshirt second Robert Braswell entered the portal on Monday. First-year goaltender Kadary Richmond opted to request a transfer on Tuesday.

“I would like to thank John Bol, Rob and Kadary for all they have contributed to the Syracuse program,” the statement said. “I especially want to thank Rob and Kadary for the key role they played in the success we had at the end of the year. We wish them the best. Our staff look forward to working with the returning players who have given us a great performance in the playoffs and who provide us with a proven track record.

Boeheim said on Saturday after Orange’s loss to Houston that Syracuse would likely have multiple players entering the transfer portal, but the team will also be active in recruiting players to play for the program.

Just because a player has entered the Transfer Portal does not necessarily mean that they will be making a transfer. Ajak, Braswell and Richmond all have the option of staying with the squad. Sophomore forward Quincy Guerrier will test the waters of the NBA to see where he stands as a player.

Joe Girard, the starting point guard for the Orange, will return to the team for his junior season next year. He joins Buddy Boeheim as two players confirmed to return for 2021-2022.
