Jim Parsons reveals he auditioned to be on NBC’s The Office before running on The Big Bang Theory

Jim Parsons struck his fame as Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, but had previously auditioned to be on the NBC The Office program.

The Houston native, 47, made the revelation during a media call to promote his Fox show Call Me Kat on Tuesday, but did not specify which character he tried out for.

Parsons said he underestimated the show’s success before its 2005 release, four years after the English version it was adapted from.

“I was like, ‘How silly, this is an office – if America wanted their own office show, they would have done that by now,” the Boys star actor said. in the Band, according to Deadline.

The office continued to operate on ABC from 2005 to 2013, helping cement a number of careers for stars Steve Carell, Mindy Kaling, John Krasinski, and Rainn Wilson, among others. It was critically acclaimed with Emmy wins and has since enjoyed streaming success through Netflix.

Parsons’ career hasn’t slowed down either, as he was a cast member of The Big Bang Theory for 12 seasons.

He is currently collaborating with one of his co-stars Mayim Bialik on the Call Me Kat series – which, like The Office, is an adaptation of a UK show called BBC Miranda.

Parsons, who is also an executive producer on the series, along with her husband Todd Spiewak, said he was encouraged by the early results.

“I watch the rehearsals, I watch the recordings and I watch the shows and I’m like ‘it works,’ he said.“ I don’t know if thousands of other people will like it, but it’s good.

Parsons in May 2018 greeted his castmates on the Big Bang Theory in an Instagram post with a photo he posed with co-stars Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar and Melissa Rauch.

“ I’m awfully grateful for the cast of this image and the cast members not pictured here – whether they’re in one scene or in multiple episodes along the way; you are all my playmates that I fell in love with and who have become a part of my life on and off the set, ”he said.

He continued, “ You are my playmates when we don’t feel like playing but we have to because it’s our job to go out and communicate and pretend we’re these other fictional people and we look each other in the eye and say those words and end up creating this weird other reality that has enriched my life more than I’ll ever understand.

“I will miss you all and all of this more than I can say and more than I can know right now.
