Jimmy Garoppolo enjoyed his time with the San Francisco 49ers. He was happy to leave the New England Patriots and finally have the opportunity to start, and he did so for almost three and a half seasons. Garoppolo was meant to be the quarterback of the future. A lot of things went through his mind. Garoppolo used his brothers as a sounding board for the thoughts that come and go in his head. Garoppolo even envisioned a scenario where he was no longer with the 49ers.
Obviously, he’s chosen to stay and see how this decision affects his future. The thought of asking to leave crossed his mind, however.
“Oh, definitely,” Garoppolo told SI’s Albert Breer last week. “Especially when they first told me that, you started imagining situations that weren’t even possible. It crossed my mind at one point. Garoppolo’s conversation with Lynch also convinced him that staying and not taking a chance somewhere else was the right thing to do.

Garoppolo has also had to deal with a lot of offseason noise surrounding his future. Many believed San Francisco would trade the quarterback ahead of the draft.

Shanahan and Lynch praised Garoppolo’s play this offseason, considering it to be one of the veteran quarterback’s best offseason with the team. Of course, part of that comes from the fact that Garoppolo has been in the same system for over three years now.
“It’s just the offense that slows down for me, being able to read the defense, to get a feel for what I’m doing before I react and react after the crash,” Garoppolo said. “I think with every veteran quarterback it just comes more and more naturally over the years.
