It looks like Trey Lance will make his first NFL start against the Cardinals this weekend.

Ahead of Friday’s practice, general manager John Lynch told KNBR, via 49ersWebZone.com, that “today is critical” for Garoppolo’s chances of playing against Arizona and that the team would start Lance if Garoppolo couldn’t train.

Training is now underway and reporters at the session have let it be known that Garoppolo is staying off the pitch. Garoppolo was taken out at halftime of last Sunday’s loss to Seattle with a calf injury.

Tight end George Kittle also trained for the 49ers this week. Kittle, who also suffers from a calf injury, is working on the side on Friday, which he did before getting the nod to play in week four.
