Former Vice President Joe Biden remains the favorite among the candidates in the 2020 Democratic presidential election – even though he does not officially participate in the race – and he presents the best of these potential candidates in a hypothetical clash with President Donald Trump, according to a Fox News poll released Sunday. .

When asked who they would like to win on a list of 20 potential candidates, 31% of voters in the Democratic primary chose Biden. Senator Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Comes in second place with 23%, followed by California Sen. Kamala Harris (8%), former Texas Representative Beto O. Rourke (8%), the Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren (4%). ) and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker (4%).

Two percent or less of the Democratic primary voters chose each of the other potential candidates. Eleven percent say they do not know who they would vote for.

In total, 67% of voters in the Democratic primary said they would like Biden to enter the race, and 19% expressed hope that it stays out.

Biden presented the best of potential Democratic candidates in a theoretical duel face to face with Trump. If the elections were held today, 47% of voters said they would vote for Biden and 40%, that they would vote for Trump.

The poll revealed that Sanders won a contest with Trump, although from 44% to 41%. The other two potential confrontations against Trump examined by pollsters were Warren and Harris. Harris followed Trump 39-41, and Warren was 40-42 behind.

Beat Trump remains the criterion of choice for Democrats as they choose their flag bearer to try to overthrow the president. Thirty-six percent of Democratic primary voters say the candidate they prefer is the one they support. Fifty-one percent say the most important question is who can defeat Trump.

"Democratic primary voters would like Biden to be on the ground, if he shows up," said Chris Anderson, a Democratic Party investigator who led the Fox News poll with Republican Daron Shaw. "They are giving priority to victory over Trump and, from now on, Biden is the best of the best-known Democrats against Trump."

The poll took place from March 17 to 20, before the news came out: Special Advocate Robert Mueller completed his investigation of Russian electoral interference without further indictment.

Fifty-two percent of respondents said they approved the treatment of the survey by Mueller and 36% disagreed. Eighty percent say Mueller's report should be made public. Fifty-two percent say that Trump tried to interfere in the survey and 36 percent say he did not do it. Forty-five percent say they trust Mueller more than Trump and 29 percent say they trust Mueller.

The survey found that Trump's approval rate was unchanged from 46% in February.

The Fox News poll was conducted on a random sample of 1,002 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
