President Joe biden just lambasted the Texas Rangers for not limiting their stadium capacity this year … saying the move could lead to a wide spread of the coronavirus.
“I think it’s a mistake,” Biden told ESPN Wednesday night. “They should listen to Dr Fauci, the scientists and the experts. But I don’t think that’s responsible.”
While Texas will require their fans to wear masks when in the stands at Rangers games this season … the team say there will be no attempts to limit the number of people who can attend.
And, with Globe Life Field having a capacity of over 40,000 … Biden clearly fears it will become breeding ground for COVID-19.
For their part, the Rangers – whose home opener is scheduled for Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays – have insisted that protocols would prevent games from being a big deal.
Texas are currently the only MLB team with no fan limit … most of the rest of the league is at less than 50% of capacity, with Boston and Washington limiting their seats to just 12% of the stadium.
As far as MLB and the vaccine go … Biden sent a strong message to players, coaches, staff and fans on Wednesday – urging everyone to get the shot.
“I would say I’m the President of the United States and have been vaccinated,” Biden said. “I don’t have a trivial job. Would I take the vaccine if I thought it was going to hurt me?”
There’s more … Biden also said he would back MLB executives if they choose to move the All-Star Game out of Georgia this year following the state governor’s decision to sign a polarizing vote bill.
The proposed new law would impose several strict restrictions on voters … and opponents of it have argued that it could undermine voting opportunities for minorities.
“It’s Jim Crow on steroids what they do in Georgia and 40 other states,” Biden said. “What is it? Imagine passing a law saying you can’t provide water or food to someone who is in line to vote. You can’t do that? Come on.”
“Or are you going to close the polling station at 5 pm when people come down? It’s about preventing the people who work I grew up with from voting.”
Biden too, once again, has supported closing the gender pay gap in sport … reiterating: “I don’t think it’s fair. I don’t think it’s fair.”
