Joe Biden’s appeal to Afghan president is blameless: Devine

Reuters released an explosive report of a July phone call between Joe Biden and then Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in which the US president pledged military aid in exchange for lies.

The “perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things are not going well in terms of fighting the Taliban,” Biden said in the July 23 appeal. “And there is a need, whether it’s true or not, there is a need to project a different image.”

Whether this is true or not.

No, things weren’t going well, three weeks after the United States abandoned Bagram Airfield in the middle of the night.

Biden’s solution was to create the “perception” that everything was fine. He wanted to keep the illusion long enough to cover his August 31 deadline to withdraw U.S. troops and have a victory lap on September 11, when he would run as the first president to end the Eternal War.

So he asked Ghani to rig an event to make it look like he had a plan to push back the Taliban to reassure America’s allies who were starting to question Biden’s schedule.

“I don’t know if you are aware,” said Biden, “how the perception in the world is that this sounds like a losing proposition… so the conclusion I’m asking you to consider is to bring everyone together of [ex-Afghan Vice President Abdul Rashid] Dostum, at [ex-President Hamid] Karzai and in between. If they stand there and say they support the strategy you’ve put in place, and put a warrior in charge, you know a soldier. . . in charge of executing this strategy, and it will change the perception.

Ghani tried to explain that the situation was dire: “Mr. President, we are facing a full-scale invasion, made up of Taliban, full Pakistani planning and logistical support, and at least 10 to 15,000 international terrorists.

He requested American air support. “What is crucial is close air support. . . a very strong dependence on air power.

The Afghan army was based on the American model, which relies on air support for enemy strikes, transport of the wounded, etc. But the contractors who maintained the Afghan planes were gone, leaving the Afghan army exposed.

Biden offered conditional air support, in return for Ghani’s cunning, but only until his August 31 deadline. After that, “who knows?”

Ghani could see the writing on the wall and fled Kabul three weeks later.

“Did the president push a false account in this appeal? A reporter asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Wednesday after the Reuters article was published.

“I’m not going to go into the details of a private conversation,” she replied.

Ha! This was certainly not the norm for Democrats when they ousted Donald Trump last year following a leaked phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It was at this point that Trump was accused of pressuring Ukraine to investigate credible allegations that Biden pressured Ukraine to dismiss the prosecutor investigating the case. a company that paid Joe’s son Hunter $ 4 million.

Biden’s call with Ghani was equally selfish and more damaging to American interests, but don’t expect Congress to sue him.

Reuters also reported on an appeal to Ghani from General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who also focused on overturning global “perceptions” of reality.

“Perception in the United States, Europe and the media is sort of a story of Taliban momentum and a story of Taliban victory,” Milley said in the appeal, also on July 23. “We have to collectively … try to reverse this perception, this narrative.

But the problem was not perception. The problem was the reality that the Taliban were winning.

Denial of reality is not a winning formula. It’s a psychological illness, and it also appears that Foggy Bottom is having cloudy thoughts. Vanity Fair describes the delusional state of mind that plagued the State Department in the months leading up to the withdrawal from Afghanistan as “pathological optimism.”

This willful naivety of Biden and his courteous Secretary of State Antony Blinken was designed to provide plausible deniability when things were going wrong in Afghanistan, as they knew. Their only mistake was to think that Ghani and his army would hang around until September 11.

Biden’s provocative speech on Tuesday was an attempt to detonate another fantasy – that our surrender in Afghanistan was a success.

We’re supposed to pretend the Taliban aren’t taunting us with mock funerals or parades with some of the billions of dollars in Humvees and Black Hawks and the guns we gave them.

We’re supposed to ignore the 13 flag-draped coffins that were flown back to Dover Air Base on Sunday.

The president probably thinks the lies will continue to work since his presidential campaign has been such a triumph of perception over reality. Democrats claimed he was a sane, good-character candidate whose empathy, integrity, and foreign policy expertise would restore America’s soul.

They got away with it only because the media and Big Tech conspired to deceive the American people.

But a new Rasmussen poll shows voters are no longer buying the illusion – a majority believe Biden should step down because of the Afghanistan debacle. The problem is, most don’t think Vice President Kamala Harris is qualified to replace him.

And that’s our predicament for the next three years.

Illogical abortion

We have heard little from Kamala Harris about her responsibilities in the southern border disaster, which is on track for a record 2 million illegal migrants this year.

But on Wednesday, the vice president denounced a new Texas “heartbeat” law that bans abortions after six weeks.

It was a case where she and her boss agreed, with the staunch Catholic president also condemning the law. Both said he was racist, saying he was targeting “women of color”.

But if they’re right and more black babies live, then surely that makes the law anti-racist.

The FDA rebels against Joe

Alarming developments at the FDA just as a COVID vaccine has been fully approved and more are near.

Two of the agency’s top vaccine officials have resigned, Endpoints News reports, fearing the Biden administration is politicizing decisions such as booster shots.

Hopefully there is another reason, but if two such high-profile resignations had happened during the Trump presidency, you know, we’ll be told the sky is falling on us.
