President-elect Joe Biden slipped and twisted his ankle while playing with his dog, Major, on Saturday, and his doctor said a CT scan showed he had hair fractures in the “mid-foot” area. Mr. Biden will probably “need a walking boot” for several weeks.
“The initial x-rays showed no obvious fractures, but his clinical examination warranted more detailed imaging,” Mr. Biden’s personal physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, said in a statement. “The follow-up CT scan confirmed (small) hairline fractures of President-elect Biden’s lateral and middle wedge bones, which are in the midfoot. He is predicted to likely need a walking boot. for several weeks. ”
Mr. Biden visited Delaware orthopedic specialists in Newark, Delaware on Sunday afternoon, “out of caution.” Mr. Biden arrived around 4 p.m. ET and left around 6:45 p.m., giving the press outside a boost.
The president-elect turned 78 last week, making him the oldest president in US history.
Major is one of the two German Shepherds of the Bidens, and is ready to become the first rescue dog live in the White House. The Biden adopted him from the Delaware Humane Society in 2018.
The president-elect and his wife are also planning to bring a cat to accompany them to the White House after inauguration day in January, CBS Sunday Morning’s Jane Pauley reported on Friday.
