Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ Presidential Inauguration Committee has released a long reading list to mark the 46th President’s inauguration on January 20.
The playlist is the result of a partnership between PIC, DJ D-Nice and Raedio, the label launched by Unsafe star and creator Issa Rae. The 46-song set is available on all major streaming services, while a specially sequenced mixing version is available on Soundcloud.
“As a brand founded on the principle of being an audio company everywhere, we are honored to create the official playlist for the historic inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris,” co-founder of Raedio, Benoni Tagoe, said in a statement. “We know that music has the power to bring people together, and after a year of challenges and national divisions, we hope this collection serves as an indication of a new beginning, positive change and a reminder that the music of all types is Language. “
The track list contains new and old music and takes advantage of a range of genres. Selections include “Now Or Never” by Kendrick Lamar, “Pick Up the Pieces” by Average White Band, “Free” by Sault, “Coffin Nails” by MF Doom, Salt-N-Pepa and “Whatta Man” by En Vogue, “Lovely” by Bill Withers Day, “We the People” by Staple Singers, “Unbelievers” by Vampire Weekend, “Got to Give It Up – Pt. 1” and “Good Days” by SZA.
The playlist also includes walk-on songs from Biden and Harris, as well as the First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. For the elected president, it is “We Take Care of Our Own” by Bruce Springsteen; for the elected vice-president, it’s “Work That” by Mary J. Blige; for Dr. Biden, it’s “You Make My Dreams” by Hall and Oates; and for Emhoff, it’s “You Get What You Give” from the new radicals.
“During a tumultuous year that has separated so many loved ones, music has been a constant driver that has kept us connected,” Tony Allen, CEO of PIC said in a statement. “Whether you are a soul country, a jazz enthusiast, a hip-hop, a classic or just a fan of old-school rock and roll, music clarifies, inspires, unites and heals. Today, we’re excited to share President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris’s official inaugural reading list with the nation. These songs and artists reflect the relentless spirit and rich diversity of America. They mark a new chapter and will help bring people together as the Biden-Harris administration begins its important work to unite our country. “
