The legal team of Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as “Joe Exotic” from the Netflix documentary “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”, claim that Maldonado-Passage will receive a pardon from President Donald Trump.
Maldonado-Passage, who is being held at Federal Medical Center Fort Worth, was convicted last year for trying to organize the murder of Florida wildlife sanctuary founder Carole Baskin, who criticized her treatment of animals.
Baskin was not injured. Maldonado-Passage was also found guilty of killing five tigers, selling cubs and falsifying wildlife records.
Baskin founded Big Cat Rescue, a popular wildlife sanctuary based in Tampa, Florida dedicated to abused and abandoned animals such as lions, tigers, bobcats, and cougars.
Lawyers for Maldonado-Passage, 57, said he maintained his innocence and filed his pardon request on September 8 with the US Department of Justice. In it, they say he was “betrayed and betrayed” by others.
The application also includes several character affidavits, letters of support and various court documents. A spokeswoman for the Justice Department said it would be premature to comment on the request.
There was a limo waiting on Tuesday, ready to pick up Maldonado-Passage from federal prison, according to legal team member Eric Love.
Love told NBC 5 that Maldonado-Passage will have his hair and makeup done before making public comments. The legal team has stylists on standby.
