Dwayne Haskins believes he has one of the Redskins best-selling jerseys this year, but first, the rookie quarterback must decide which number he will wear.
Shortly after Haskins was selected 15th overall in the first round of the NFL draft last Thursday, he interviewed NFL Network. Scott Hansen, host of "NFL Total Access", concluded the segment by informing Haskins that a look at the Redskins list revealed that number 7 – the figure that Haskins was wearing at Bullis School and in the State of Ohio – was available.

Although Haskins is the most prominent player to reach the Redskins in the number 7, he is by no means the first player since Theismann retired in 1985. The Redskins only have one officially retired number – Sammy Baugh's No. 33 – but several other numbers, including Sean Taylor's No. 21 and John Riggins' No. 44, have not were distributed to other players out of respect for those who made them famous. Baugh, the Redskins Hall of Fame quarterback, did not hesitate to ask Duane Thomas, former Cowboys' halfback, to wear his number after being traded to Washington in 1973.
"If Duane Thomas wants number 33 and that would make him happy, I'm all for giving him number 33," Baugh told The Post at the time. "I was wondering when they were going to run out of numbers and use my old number. I would be happy to see someone else wearing it. "
Baugh said no one from the Redskins had contacted him about waiving his rights on the number. Thomas wore number 47 during his two seasons in Washington.
