Stars Deliver Impressive Performances in Quarantined Netflix Movie They Produced

John David Washington and Zendaya are quite convincing as a couple in the midst of an epic eruption Malcolm and Marie, but none of the actors really know what they think of the couple they represent.

The talented two are the only actors in the black and white Netflix film from Sam levinson which was produced at the start of the COVID-19 crisis. Described as a “painfully romantic drama in which a filmmaker (Washington) and his girlfriend (Zendaya) return home after a festive film premiere as he awaits what is sure to be impending critical and financial success. The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationship begin to surface, testing the strength of their love ”is a wonder to watch. It’s also a game-changing moment for Zendaya, whose portrayal of recovering drug addict, Marie, reinforces the fact that she is a grown woman and a true force in Hollywood.

Even though the 24-year-old actress embodies the complicated character wonderfully, even she is unsure whether Malcolm, played by Washington, and Marie should be together.

“I’m divided like everyone else is probably… I think the beauty of what we’re doing there is – really, the point is to have the conversation; the dialogue and the back and forth, the polarizing aspect of it, ”said Zendaya theGrio after the first screening of the film. “I don’t think we’re all supposed to agree. And it’s not supposed to be so black and white. I think it’s supposed to be a little messy and confusing and confrontational, you know? So, like everyone else, I go back and forth.

“Sometimes I think they’re great for each other and they’re the only people who can really interact and see each other and push each other the right way,” she continued. “And they know each other like no one else. And then other days I’m like, that’s not how it should work. Like, that’s wrong. They have to go to therapy. They don’t have to be together. They are co-dependent. It’s bad.”

“It’s difficult and it’s – and it’s confusing for me too, and I got to live with the characters and I’m learning more about the characters,” Zendaya added. “I think when we do interviews, like me – people point out different things that I might not have understood or recognized.

Washington also doesn’t seem sure whether Malcolm and Marie go together.

“It might be healthy for their art, but I don’t know if it’s healthy for their personal life. Truly not. That being said, is this the only time they’ve gone this far? We’re talking about a snapshot of their relationship, ”he said.

“This could be the worst night they’ve ever had … If it’s the biggest fight they’ve ever had, I think maybe they can get over it,” the actor said of 36 years. “But if it built up, if there was little, you know, there was incremental things that led up to that night … then no, I think it’s not. all healthy. “

Viewers will also likely be heartbroken when they watch the film which exposes the dark places we go to when love is at stake. Many may be mesmerized by Zendaya’s truly remarkable presence onscreen or frustrated by the barely banging hits. veiled from the director on subjects on which he may not be the best source. Surely everyone will be in awe of the gravity it took for this small crew to pull off this feature under the extreme and uncertain circumstances that the lockdown presented.

“There is a certain level of responsibility, not only as a creator, but also as a producer. We’re both producers on it and not just as ‘producers’ but we love to put our names on it, put our hearts in it, put our money in it, ”said Zendaya, who also starred on the series. HBO created by Levinson Euphoria.

“There were a lot of strict protocols in place and we were able to kind of create this bubble of people; that production bubble, where once you’re in, you’re in. You can’t go out. We were also able to somehow reconstruct what the fair model of cinema is, ”she continues.

“We had like real ownership in this movie, which I don’t know how many times it’s been done before, but it seems like the right way to structure the movies,” Zendaya said, “that the people who really give their heart and soul and their time in something really sees the benefits. So it was intimidating, of course, and scary. But we also worked diligently and everyone who was there wanted to be there.

Although her performance was snubbed when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for the Golden Globe Awards, Zendaya has already marked the industry with this project.

“I’m proud of the film, but I’m even more proud of the way we were able to make it,” she said.
